Juan Cole has a piece about the Gaza conflict that really illuminates the history of the conflict. If you are interested in the roots of the conflict then go read the whole thing.

Pat Lang always has interesting insight:

It is hard to see how they can profit from this effort against Hamas.  They have gambled "the ranch" on this roll of the iron dice.  They have never been good at long term thinking.  They are too focused on their tribal enemies for that.


The thought that we Americans are bankrolling these ancient tribal feuds is increasingly appalling to me.
