Happy Easter from the Land of the SUV. Todays dinner was wonderful. We had Roast Pork Tenderloin with Carmelized Onions and Golden Grapes, Mashed potatoes with brie, goat cheese and Pecorino Romano, fresh asparagus, and a broccoli mushroom and cheddar quiche. After dinner we had strawberry shortcake and whipped cream (homemade of course) and vanilla bean cheesecake with almond shortbread crust (also homemade) which was just killer. Surfpunk and Lola came and ate as well as our friend Roger, and SurfSweeties stepfather.
The two holidays that I love the best are Thanksgiving and Easter. I love Thanksgiving because it calls on us to give thanks for our blessings. This is something that we do not allow ourselves time to do often enough.
I love Easter because it is the celebration of rebirth. In that rebirth is offered a chance at redemption. I don't think that there are many of us who have achieved any sort of age who don't feel a need to maybe have an act for which they are responsible redeemed. This is one of the most powerful draws of the Christian Church, the idea of forgiveness hence redemption.
Whether Christian or not, the idea of redemption should serve as a guiding principle for all of us. I am not talking about facile verbal formulations uttered in ceremonial settings that serve to validate feelings of superiority, rather I am speaking of serious contemplation and repudiation of past error and dedication to the idea that although you cannot fix every problem you caused in this world, you can consistently apply your best efforts to make the world a better place. In the process you help yourself become a better person. Thus the redemption.
Happy Easter!
